About Port Scanners

An open port scanner using nmap determines which of the open ports on your device pose a security risk. Port scanning shows how exposed and vulnerable your device is to the outside world.

About Network Ports

A network port or network access port is a resource allocated by the system for connecting a specific application or service on the device to programs on other devices/hosts, as well as to programs on the same device. Each unique port is assigned its own number ranging from 0 to 65535, which is transmitted over the network in the packet header along with the IP address. When connecting to a host, the application sends a request or waits for incoming data from a known port open on the device.

Why Port Scanning Is Important

Using an online scanner allows you to assess your device's vulnerability from the outside as it is "seen" by potential hackers and malware (viruses, trojans).
